An ultrasound scan provides a thorough examination of the reproductive organs and can be used to diagnose a range of conditions, including polycystic ovaries, fibroids and endometrial thickening. Scans may be performed using a probe placed on the belly, but better and more detailed information is often obtained using an internal scan, with a special probe placed inside the vagina.
